![]() There are a lot of the different podcast segments recorded, so these should stay pretty fresh for awhile at least. These kickoff right from the beginning surrounding your draft and show up throughout the season. Making the experience all the more immersive, MLB The Show 21 has integrated videos of sports reporters from MLB Network like Robert Flores and podcast segments into the story of your player. If you have not created your Ballplayer from the main menu of the game before starting this mode, your player will default to Joe Random until after you get drafted and are able to change it. MLB The Show 21 changes everything by starting immediately on draft night, where you will be asked a series of questions that will lead to your main positions and which team you are drafted by. ![]() In the past, you would create a player and go through some exhibitions that would affect your draft status and then lead to you getting drafted. The core idea of creating a player and following their journey to the majors is still present, but the structure of the mode has changed quite a bit. Road to the Show is always one of the most popular modes in each iteration and MLB The Show 21 has really mixed it up this year. However, there is a steep learning curve and a good majority of players will probably rather stick to the previously offered pitching interfaces instead. This new pitching interface is very much of a case of risk and reward, where you can have the most precise pitches if you perfect the system. Pinpoint Pitching feels a bit like the recent PGA Tour 2K games in how you would use the right analog stick to swing your club, but with a little twist on it. There is also timing involved here, where you will be rewarded or penalized for how fast or slow you perform the motion. Pinpoint Pitching works almost like pulling off special moves in a fighting game, as you pick your pitch type and placement first and then use the right analog stick to trace certain pattern based on the type of pitch you have chosen. MLB The Show 21 changes that with the brand new Pinpoint Pitching, which is the most difficult one in the series to date. San Diego Studio has added additional pitching options to the series over the years, but it has been a long time since a brand new pitching interface has been introduced to the series. Competitive is also the new standard for online player, so getting used to it in other modes can pay dividends online. ![]() Lastly, Competitive escalates the difficult quite a bit, as it focuses on the player’s skills above anything else. Simulation ups the difficulty and is much more based on player and team ratings with how well or poorly you perform. Casual is for the beginners or those just looking to play a more arcade style game. MLB The Show 21 tries to streamline this though with the inclusion of three gameplay styles for you to choose from. The difficulty in this series has always been pretty high, though there have always been plenty of options you can adjust to make the experience better.
